With the city of London moving at 100mph, women need beauty and hair establishments that are going to keep up with the pace. TreatNOW spoke to Mathieu of Signature Blow and found out how they have been catering to the woman on the go…
How did Signature Blow begin? What made you want to be in the hair business?
Well my background is in fashion, working fashion weeks and working with magazines on shoots, so when I travelled here to learn English I wanted to take that experience with me. With Signature Blow I have tried to provide that studio experience in one place for people to get their hair, nails and makeup done. I like to think that we take all of our knowledge and work on clients as if they were preparing for a fashion photoshoot.
How do you make your service special for each client?
For us consultation is the number one priority. We are not like every other blow dry bar in the fact that we try to make each service unique and we are very quick to respect our clients’ schedule. We are willing to compromise on what the client wants, take inspiration from photos and give them advice, although what they want in the end is up to them.
In your opinion, what is the selling point of your brand? What makes you different from other salons?
The fact that we have everything all under one roof is a major factor in making us different and the other thing is that we are open from 7am-9pm Monday to Friday 9am-9pm on Saturday and Sunday’s from 1pm-6pm, we try to be pretty accessible. The major factor is also our approach with each client, we don’t have lookbooks where people choose a style, and we like to give a bespoke service. Plus, one more thing, our location is very central so that it means they can stop by for a blow dry at their convenience before an event.
What is the most important factor that keeps Signature Blow successful?
It is definitely the fact that we offer both hair and nails. We can do it fast and at the same time, sometimes having 3 people working on one client at once. So they can walk in and have left in 45 minutes with their hair done, a manicure and a pedicure.
Are you noticing any hair trends emerging for the summer?
Our own signature blow dry technique is actually very on trend right now as people are really liking big hair. Also gel nails and extensions are a huge hit, mainly because there aren’t too many places around our area that offer the ones that we do.
How do you make sure that your customers find you?
We have an app, which was the first one for a blow dry bar, and it means that people can book appointment in advance and find out the latest offers. Apart from that word of mouth and footfall are really important for us.
If a new business/salon was setting up, what’s the best piece of advice you could give them?
Quality, focus on the quality and timing. Respect the clients’ schedule. People don’t mind paying more money for a good quality treatment. Being affordable is one thing but you have to be offering true value. Also you have to love what you do, you have to be passionate about what you do and you have to ensure that your team is happy.
What does the future hold for Signature Blow? What can we look forward to?
Well we are continuing to work with different brands and not to forget where we come from we are focusing on backstage beauty and fashion shows doing editorials. We are also going to keep bringing our clients the latest trends and stay committed to the woman on the go.
