With the continued introduction of new high-tech treatments into our local hair and beauty salons, the line between plastic surgery and beauty therapy is constantly being blurred, often only distinguishable by whether it is invasive of not. Once treatment that has blurred this line in recent times has been Cryolipolysis or fat freezing, a new type of fat reduction that gives dramatic results just like a surgical procedure.

Cryolipolysis is often referred to as the best non-surgical alternative to liposuction because of the dramatic effects that it has on removing unwanted fat cells from certain areas of the body. The treatment usually targets love handles, the stomach, the arms and the legs and can remove 2-8 inches worth of unwanted fat at any one time. During the fat freezing the chosen area of the body is sucked up into a hose like device in sections and the skin is reduced down to extremely low temperatures. The effect of this is that the skin is not damaged – only bruised in some cases – but the extreme temperatures destroy the fat cells below the layers of skin. After the treatment the damaged fat cells are removed naturally by the body’s lymphatic drainage system and the only side effects are some bruising, tingling and occasional numbness that passes in a few days.

Clients who are medically overweight tend to lose more inches with fat freezing than those who are slimmer but it is not recommended for those who are morbidly obese. The treatment is more for those who are of a healthy size but want to target areas of stubborn fat in order to improve their body proportion balance. In terms of why the treatment works, it is because when exposed to extremely low temperatures fat cells crystallise whereas the skin cells are more durable. This allows the non-invasive treatment to work because the fat can be targeted through the skin rather than having to work under it. The procedure does offer dramatic results and can either be used as a one off or in a series of treatments to target really stubborn areas.

As it is not a surgical procedure the therapist performing the Cryolipolysis treatment does not need to be medically trained – only trained to a high professional standard – and so the treatment is easily available in a number of beauty salons across London. One of the main, and first establishments, to offer the treatment is Aesthetics of London who, since introducing it in 2011, has treated more than 6000 clients. They are certainly the place to go if you want to be placed in the hands of an experienced professional and achieve trusted results. Glamour Hair and Beauty near Leicester Square also offers the treatment and bases their Cryolipolysis packages based on how many areas you would like to treat at one time so that you can really customize your treatment and make it personal to you. Most people usually combine the targeting of their love handles with the lower stomach as a double area treatment. Lastly, if you are in west London and are looking to try out the fat freezing treatment then you to head to the acclaimed Kensington Skincare Medispa. They have a whole host of non-invasive surgical slimming treatments available and are real professionals in this area of beauty.
