Set in the heart of fashionable Mayfair, Alkhemy London is a new boutique hair and beauty destination that has already achieved international acclaim. Alkhemy London provides its clients with bespoke salon experiences from hairdressing to body treatments.
We were lucky enough to catch up with the ‘Alkhemists’ and talk about their story and their secrets to success.
How did Alkhemy London begin?
Jamal Mansour and Michael Yaxley have been professional and personal friends for many years, both having successful salons in their own right … so to bring them together on this project was a perfect fit.
The White Horse Street location in Shepherd’s Market, Mayfair was completely renovated in December 2014 and Alkhemy London, a beautiful boutique hair and beauty salon was born.
How do you make your services alone special for each client?
Alkhemy (pronounced alkimi) is all about the … art of transformation …applied to the hair and beauty market where our Alkhemists’ provide a service that is …” a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination…” ensuring each client has a personal almost holistic experience
In your opinion, what is the selling point of the Alkhemy London brand?
What makes you different from other hair and beauty brands?
- An established international team of professionals (The Alkhemists)
- You will not be “handed off” to a junior stylist – our clients are pampered by the Alkhemist they select on booking
- We will close the salon exclusively for you! Great for Wedding Hair Packages, Spa Days or privacy.
Can you give us some tips on how you can develop a brand and grow your customers?
Reputation … it is vital high standards are maintained and the service provided translates to a great experience for the client. This will result in recommendations and returning customers!
According to Alkhemy London, what are the newest hair and beauty trends out there for men and women?
For MEN it’s more about grooming this year – with far more men requesting beauty treatments than previously seen. In men’s hair trends side partings, quiffs, slick hair and messy, tousled styles mean there are new looks for anyone wanting a change.
For the LADIES, the famous Bob Cut is back, which makes any women look elegant and attractive and plus it can be easily styled. This year’s Bob Cut is choppy and not as sleek as the original.
Fringes are slightly longer, curved and softened. The Bohemian, natural beach curls look will be popular. Colour is the key to emphasis texture and make a statement this season. Whether you go for the short unkempt, pixie-urchin look or graduated, long choppy layers and sun-kissed ends.
In the BEAUTY arena its dewy skin! Fresh, dewy skin was all over the spring runways. The only way to get that glowing look on a daily basis is to take care of your skin – so facials and body treatments are still top favourites and must-do’s this year?
How do you make sure that your customers find you?
Network in your community! You customers either live in the area, work in the area or are visitors. There is no single marketing strategy that can reach all of these people so it is important to constantly look at how you are trying to communicate with potential new clients and adapt according to what you see. Advertise in the local paper so your business neighbours know who you are and will recommend you; get a web site; create a database of your clients and send them “offers”. The key is to never stop marketing your business!
If a new business/salon was setting up, what’s the best piece of advice you could give them?
Do your market research!
Talk to the people who are likely to use your salon and find out what their “needs” are and make sure that aligns with how YOU see your business!
Create a web site so you can store all the important information about your business in one place. It doesn’t have to be expensive try www.1and1.co.uk for a simple to set up and run web site host.
