I met Claire through the Women in Business network. Claire Portis is a life and business coach with a truly inspirational and snappy slogan

“I Wish, I Can, I Will”

Claire is a busy professional and she turns to Jo Tocher when she needs some relaxation.

“Sometimes you don’t know you need a massage until you have one.
Today I had the most amazing and relaxing massage from Jo at The Light Centre.
Jo has a calm and caring approach and just intuitively knows how much pressure to apply and where.
I felt like I was in safe and professional hands and came away feeling  stress free, relaxed and energised.
I highly recommend Jo to bring you back into balance.”

Jo is a Holistic Wellbeing Therapist based at the Light Centre in London Wall. She offers; Aromatherapy Massage, Indian Head Massage, Hypnosis, Reiki, Relaxation Classes and Heart Screening.

Lets find out more about Jo.

1. Why did you become a Holistic Therapist?
I became a therapist after working in the Corporate world for many years and wanted a change. I wanted my work to be flexible around having children and home life. I always loved having a massage and went on a taster weekend in Aromatherapy Massage and absolutely loved it. I then applied to The Tisserand Institute and did a years full time diploma – from there I’ve trained in many different modalities including Aromatherapy in Pregnancy, Indian Head Massage, Hypnosis and Reiki and also Heart Screeing.

2. Why and when did you decide to be a sole trader or company?
I became a self employed Sole Trader once I graduated as my first place of employment only took on Self Employed therapists.

3. What makes your service special?
I like to think that the service I give my customer starts when the make the initial enquiry and I treat each and every person as equal and treat them with the utmost of respect, throughout the treatment and ongoing.

4. Did you prepare a Christmas marketing campaign and what did you do?
I usually give my existing customers a special offer with a discount and also new customers. It starts with a newsletter and I also use social media.

5. What’s your preferred ways of communicating with clients?
I prefer to communicate via text as it’s much more instant. I find there are a lot of emails that come into ones inbox and they’re often not read.

6. What’s your biggest challenge in 2015?
I’m going to be running my own Relaxation Workshop, where people can come for a day and learn how to relax, breathe, stretch and unwind.

7. What’s your hidden talent?
I’m very intuitive!

8. What your proudest business achievement in 2014
Running evening Relaxation Classes on a weekly basis, which everyone loved.

9. What’s your favourite piece of business advice to pass on?
When the chips are down keep going, sometimes you want to give up, but trust that something will good will happen and it usually does. Try to remain positive!

10. what do you wish you’d known when you started out?
Someone once gave me some duff advice and told me to register as self-employed while I was still training. It was too early and I could have waited until I’d graduated to apply.
