Today is the start of something rather ambitious! I’m planning an advent blog for December, so every day you will be able to see a new profile of either one of my personal favourite stylists, therapists or beauticans or that of someone I know!
I’ll only be profiling known and trusted, talented and lovely people!
We’re starting with shooting star James Oxley. James is a senior director at RUSH on Baker Street and this year became a WorkShop Team Member. Although only in his early twenties, James is definitely one to watch. James cut my hair 2 weeks ago after a recommendation from my neighbour and he did a great job. I’ve got long hair and people with long hair are super fussy. He nailed it, although I can’t get it to look quite as fabulous as he did in the salon, it’s cut so well that I can easily style it myself.
Now lets find out about James…
1. Why did you become a hairdresser?
As cliché as it sounds I fell into it. I studied art and photography before and I was always obsessed with people in the photographs and the shapes and textures. I think that made the transition a lot clearer.
2. What’s good about RUSH? How does your boss show their appreciation for your work?
RUSH are a fantastic brand. They support young talent massively and have helped me get to where I am today. As a current art team and session team member I’m constantly doing editorials, and they publicise everything I do in their blogs and in internal newsletters.
3. What is special about your approach?
I think I take everything into account. In salon, I don’t just think of hair as a seperate entity. It’s an extension of your personality. From working in fashion I always reference trends and but I view hair as the ultimate creative medium. You can make it do whatever you want.
4. Did RUSH prepare a Christmas marketing campaign and what did they do?
Yes we rolled out our Christmas offers to our new and regular clients recently. Our online shop and website have all their online marketing up now and we have Christmas cards with rewards and gifts in for all our clients.
5. What’s their preferred ways of communicating with clients?
We prefer to reach out to our clients with short texts and emails. We understand everyone’s busy and this is the best to send a little reminder of what we have in store for our clients
6. What’s your biggest challenge in 2015?
I set myself yearly goals. I would say one of the biggest would be to make a book. A Fashion story collaborating with Stylists, Photographers and Make Up artists.
7. What’s your hidden talent?
I would have to say it’s poetry. Not many people know I write. But I go to readings all the time.
8. What your proudest business achievment in 2014?
Getting on to the RUSH Session team was an amazing achievement this year. As well as being internationally published for editorials across the world.
9. What’s your oddest request?
I don’t think I’ve had many odd requests. Someone once asked me to colour their facial hair purple.
10. What’s your favourite piece of business advice to pass on?
Write down your goals and constantly check back to see your progress. Also look back over your work and re-evaluate it, see what you could of done better every time.
You should never stop growing and learning.
